Don’t mess with Philadelphia, ever. While we are sometimes our own worst enemy, there is much to love about our bluntness, unwillingness to be dazzled, and fight. Twenty years ago it would be hard to imagine that a fuzzy orange character with crazy eyes would not only be deemed an acceptable mascot for one of our professional sports teams but also manage to become an accurate representation of Philadelphia’s attitude to the rest of the world at a key moment in history. Caprice and Megan worked hard to create a Very Gritty Christmas ornament, laser cut from reclaimed 2020 campaign signs to commemorate this moment, just in time for the holidays. 

Like every product we sell, the ‘Very Gritty Christmas’ ornaments are created by Building Heroes ages 14-75 and represent important opportunities for them to earn and learn 21st century design, fabrication, leadership, and entrepreneurship skills.
