BUILD YOUR OWN (BYO) WREATH
BUILD YOUR OWN (BYO) WREATH
Wreaths can be beautiful and immediately make a home or business feel festive but why should you spend a bunch of money on something that you can only use once?
Ever since we’ve started receiving donations of reclaimed lawn signs that are generally unrecyclable in most communities, we have been itching to use the material to make a laser cut wreath. This fall Samira Okudo and Sarah Nowell, two University of Pennsylvania graduate students in the Integrated Product Design program, did some initial research into laser cut coroplast wreath possibilities that helped us understand what might be possible from a cost perspective. Twenty three prototypes later, along with some advice and inspiration from our friends at Cardboard Safari, we finally have a wreath that we think is beautiful, durable, and affordable. Like a puzzle they are fun to assemble as a family activity, they will last for years, easily storable, and they are frankly something that we guarantee will help you stand out amongst your neighbors.
Did we mention that with every purchase you are not only keeping a bunch of unrecyclable plastic out of the waste stream but you are providing a rich opportunity for the Building Heroes that fabricate them to ‘earn and learn’ 21st century design, fabrication, and entrepreneurship skills.
Assembly is required, but it’s a great, quick family activity equally easy to disassemble for flat pack storage.
Each wreath is 16” in diameter and 2” tall.
